The Inaugural Meeting
It all began with an idea to provide a space for critical and supportive dialogue and mutual exchange. The inaugural meeting of the SRER took place in 2013 in Chicago at the Lutheran School of Theology and McCormick Theological Seminary. The theme of the conference was “The State of Our Union,” and distinguished plenary addresses were presented by James Cone, Kwok Pui-Lan, George “Tink” Tinker, Otto Maduro, and M. Shawn Copeland. The biennial served to propel the SRER into its first decade of existence distinctive for its academic excellence and professional impact.
