The 2017 biennial was convened in Nashville, TN at Vanderbilt Divinity School. The theme of the conference addressed the place of radical love in critical pedagogy. Plenary addressed were presented by Emilie M. Townes, Stacey M. Floyd-Thomas, David Kyuman Kim, and Laura S. Levitt. Young and established scholars presented their research on womanist pedagogy, popular culture, and the pedagogy of deep solidarity. Additional sessions were devoted to leadership, embodiment, along with a service learning workshop for young scholars. Finally, attendees were presented with a screening of the documentary Trails of Hope and Terror, (Vincent De La Torre, Director; Miguel De La Torre, Screenwriter; Deborah De La Torre, Producer) followed by a concluding session on the relationship between scholarship and activism.
